What is the state of my heart?

Preachers Corner https://www.preacherscorner.org.uk

What is the state of my heart? The Gospel is preached to awaken fallen man to their need of a Saviour. The Bible tells us that in our sins we find ourselves short of the glory of God. Many people try to earn favour with God by doing God works, attending meetings or giving to charity. The scriptures tell us that the only way to find peace with God is through the completed work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Bible Scriptures: Darby Translation

Luke 10:25-3725 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up tempting him, and saying, Teacher, having done what, shall I inherit life eternal?26 And he said to him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?

27 But he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thine understanding; and thy neighbour as thyself.28 And he said to him, Thou hast answered right: this do and thou shalt live.29 But he, desirous of justifying himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbour?30 And Jesus replying said, A certain man descended from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell into [the hands of] robbers, who also, having stripped him and inflicted wounds, went away leaving him in a half-dead state.31 And a certain priest happened to go down that way, and seeing him, passed on on the opposite side;

32 and in like manner also a Levite, being at the spot, came and looked [at him] and passed on on the opposite side.33 But a certain Samaritan journeying came to him, and seeing [him], was moved with compassion,34 and came up [to him] and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine; and having put him on his own beast, took him to [the] inn and took care of him.

35 And on the morrow [as he left], taking out two denarii he gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, Take care of him, and whatsoever thou shalt expend more, *I* will render to thee on my coming back.36 Which [now] of these three seems to thee to have been neighbour of him who fell into [the hands of] the robbers?37 And he said, He that shewed him mercy. And Jesus said to him, Go, and do *thou* likewise.”

Luke 18:18-2218 And a certain ruler asked him saying, Good teacher, having done what, shall I inherit eternal life?19 But Jesus said to him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, God.20 Thou knowest the commandments: Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.

21 And he said, All these things have I kept from my youth.22 And when Jesus had heard this, he said to him, One thing is lacking to thee yet: Sell all that thou hast and distribute to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in the heavens, and come, follow me.”

John 2:23 “And when he was in Jerusalem, at the passover, at the feast, many believed on his name, beholding his signs which he wrought.”

John 2:23-2523 And when he was in Jerusalem, at the passover, at the feast, many believed on his name, beholding his signs which he wrought.24 But Jesus himself did not trust himself to them, because he knew all [men],25 and that he had not need that any should testify of man, for himself knew what was in man.”

Psalm 51Be gracious unto me, O God, according to thy loving-kindness; according to the abundance of thy tender mercies, blot out my transgressions.Wash me fully from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is continually before me.Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done what is evil in thy sight; that thou mayest be justified when thou speakest, be clear when thou judgest.Behold, in iniquity was I brought forth, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Behold, thou wilt have truth in the inward parts; and in the hidden [part] thou wilt make me to know wisdom.Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.Make me to hear gladness and joy; [that] the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.11 Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not the spirit of thy holiness from me.12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, and let a willing spirit sustain me.13 I will teach transgressors thy ways, and sinners shall return unto thee.14 Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.15 Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare thy praise.

16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou hast no pleasure in burnt-offering.17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.18 Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion; build the walls of Jerusalem.19 Then shalt thou have sacrifices of righteousness, burnt-offering, and whole burnt-offering; then shall they offer up bullocks upon thine altar.”

Acts 16:30-3230 And leading them out said, Sirs, what must I do that I may be saved?31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus and thou shalt be saved, thou and thy house.32 And they spoke to him the word of the Lord, with all that were in his house.”
