Disguises

Preachers Corner https://www.preacherscorner.org.uk

Many people today put on a mask and pretend to be someone they are not. Throughout the Bible, there are many examples of men and women who disguised themselves from God. Adam and Eve when they sinned against God sewed fig-leaves together to cover themselves. Mankind has a track record of running, hiding and disguising themselves instead of facing up to our responsibilities. The Bible says, we have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory but the Good News is there is a Saviour, Jesus Christ who offers forgiveness and peace to mankind in the Gospel.

Bible Scriptues: Darby Translation

Genesis 3:6-13And the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a pleasure for the eyes, and the tree was to be desired to give intelligence; and she took of its fruit, and ate, and gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig-leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

And they heard the voice of Jehovah Elohim, walking in the garden in the cool of the day. And Man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Jehovah Elohim, in the midst of the trees of the garden. And Jehovah Elohim called to Man, and said to him, Where art thou?10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I feared, because I am naked; and I hid myself.11 And he said, Who told thee that thou art naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree of which I commanded thee not to eat?12 And Man said, The woman, whom thou hast given [to be] with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.13 And Jehovah Elohim said to the woman, What is this thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

Genesis 3:2121 And Jehovah Elohim made Adam and his wife coats of skin, and clothed them.”

1 Kings 13:3333 After this thing Jeroboam turned not from his evil way,”

1 Kings 14:1-614 At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam was sick. And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and go to Shiloh: behold, there is Ahijah the prophet, who told me that [I should be] king over this people. And take with thee ten loaves, and cakes, and a cruse of honey, and go to him: he will tell thee what shall become of the lad.And Jeroboam’s wife did so, and arose and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. And Ahijah could not see; for his eyes were set by reason of his age.And Jehovah said to Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to ask a thing of thee about her son; for he is sick: thus and thus shalt thou say unto her; for it shall be, when she cometh in, that she shall feign to be another. And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou to be another? But I am sent to thee with a hard [message].”

1 Kings 14:12-1312 And thou, arise, go to thine own house; when thy feet enter into the city, the child shall die.13 And all Israel shall mourn for him, and they shall bury him; for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found something good toward Jehovah the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.”

1 Kings 22:29-3429 And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth-Gilead.30 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and will enter into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.

31 And the king of Syria commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots saying, Fight neither with small nor great, but with the king of Israel only.32 And it came to pass when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely that is the king of Israel; and they turned against him to fight; and Jehoshaphat cried out.33 And it came to pass that when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.34 And a man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the fastenings and the corslet. 1 Kings 22:41-4341 And Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name was Azubah, the daughter of Shilhi.43 And he walked in all the way of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of Jehovah.”

Luke 20:20-2620 And having watched [him], they sent out suborned persons, pretending to be just men, that they might take hold of him in [his] language, so that they might deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor.21 And they asked him saying, Teacher, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, and acceptest no [man’s] person, but teachest with truth the way of God:22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

23 But perceiving their deceit he said to them, Why do ye tempt me?24 Shew me a denarius. Whose image and superscription has it? And answering they said, Caesar’s.25 And he said to them, Pay therefore what is Caesar’s to Caesar, and what is God’s to God.26 And they were not able to take hold of him in [his] expressions before the people, and, wondering at his answer, they were silent.”
