In the wilderness, the people of Israel were dying because of their sin — but God provided a way of life through a look. Moses lifted up the serpent of brass, and everyone who looked lived. Centuries later, Jesus declared that He would be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Redemption today is still found in that same look of faith — a look that brings life through the precious blood of Christ.
Bible Scriptures: Darby Translation
Numbers 21:4-9 “4 And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to go round the land of Edom; and the soul of the people became impatient on the way;5 and the people spoke against God, and against Moses, Why have ye brought us up out of Egypt that we should die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, and no water, and our soul loathes this light bread.
6 Then Jehovah sent fiery serpents among the people, which bit the people; and much people of Israel died.7 And the people came to Moses and said, We have sinned, in that we have spoken against Jehovah, and against thee: pray to Jehovah that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.
8 And Jehovah said to Moses, Make thee a fiery [serpent], and set it upon a pole; and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, and looketh upon it, shall live.9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole; and it came to pass, if a serpent had bitten any man, and he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.”
John 3:13-1613 And no one has gone up into heaven, save he who came down out of heaven, the Son of man who is in heaven.
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, thus must the Son of man be lifted up,15 that every one who believes on him may [not perish, but] have life eternal.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whosoever believes on him may not perish, but have life eternal.”
1 Peter 1:18-19 “18 knowing that ye have been redeemed, not by corruptible [things, as] silver or gold, from your vain conversation handed down from [your] fathers,19 but by precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, [the blood] of Christ,”
