Our Commonwealth is in the Heavens

Preachers Corner https://www.preacherscorner.org.uk

As a believer in the Lord Jesus we are part of a commonwealth that has it’s existence in the heavens. Christians can have fellowship with fellow believers and enjoy the precious things of God together. In this address, you will hear what the scriptures say about the believer’s commonwealth that has its existence in the heavens.

Bible Scriptures: Darby Translation

Philippians 3:17-2117 Be imitators [all] together of me, brethren, and fix your eyes on those walking thus as you have us for a model;18 (for many walk of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they [are] the enemies of the cross of Christ:

19 whose end [is] destruction, whose god [is] the belly, and [their] glory in their shame, who mind earthly things:)20 for *our* commonwealth has its existence in [the] heavens, from which also we await the Lord Jesus Christ [as] Saviour,21 who shall transform our body of humiliation into conformity to his body of glory, according to the working of [the] power which he has even to subdue all things to himself.”

Luke 15:13-1513 And after not many days the younger son gathering all together went away into a country a long way off, and there dissipated his property, living in debauchery.14 But when he had spent all there arose a violent famine throughout that country, and he began to be in want.15 And he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.”

Luke 15:20-3020 And he rose up and went to his own father. But while he was yet a long way off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell upon his neck, and covered him with kisses.21 And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee; I am no longer worthy to be called thy son.22 But the father said to his bondmen, Bring out the best robe and clothe him in [it], and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet;

23 and bring the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and make merry:24 for this my son was dead and has come to life, was lost and has been found. And they began to make merry.25 And his elder son was in the field; and as, coming [up], he drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing.26 And having called one of the servants, he inquired what these things might be.27 And he said to him, Thy brother is come, and thy father has killed the fatted calf because he has received him safe and well.

28 But he became angry and would not go in. And his father went out and besought him.29 But he answering said to his father, Behold, so many years I serve thee, and never have I transgressed a commandment of thine; and to me hast thou never given a kid that I might make merry with my friends:30 but when this thy son, who has devoured thy substance with harlots, is come, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.”

Exodus 15:22-2722 And Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.23 And they came to Marah, and could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter; therefore the name of it was called Marah.24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?

25 And he cried to Jehovah; and Jehovah shewed him wood, and he cast it into the waters, and the waters became sweet. There he made for them a statute and an ordinance; and there he tested them.26 And he said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of Jehovah thy God, and do what is right in his eyes, and incline thine ears to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the complaints upon thee that I have put upon the Egyptians; for I am Jehovah who healeth thee.27 And they came to Elim; and twelve springs of water were there, and seventy palm trees; and they encamped there by the waters.”
